KAIWO MARU II
Japan's 361 ft entry was built by Sumitomo Heavy Industries in 1989 for the Institute of Sea Training,   Kaiwo Maru II has a 46 ft beam and a draft of 22 ft.  Her barque rig carries nearly 30,000 square feet of sail.  Kaiwo Maru II was the only 4 masted tall ship in the race.

DEWARUCI
Indonesia's 191 foot Dewaruci was built in Hamburg, then West Germany in 1952 for the Indonesian Naval Academy.  As a barkentine she was sailed by 77 third year cadets from Djakarta Indonesia.  Dewaruci has a 31 ft beam and 13 foot draft with 11,000 square ft of sail in a barquentine rig.

CONCORDIA
Canada's 151 ft Concordia was built in Szczecin Poland in 1991 with a 31 foot beam and 13.5 feet draft.  A barquentine rig with 10,000 square feet of sail area and home ported in Nassau Bahamas.  Over 500 international students have completed their academic year aboard her.

GLORIA
Spain's 249 ft Gloria accommodates 10 officers, 50 full time crew, and 75 cadets.  She has a 33 foot beam and 16 ft of draft.  Built in Bilbao Spain in 1968 for the Armada National de Columbia with a barque rig carrying 15,000 square feet of sail. 

Definitions;
Barque or Bark is a sailing vessel with one for and aft rigged mast (usually gaff rigged) at the stern with all forward masts rigged as square riggers.  The Japanese Kaiwo Maru and Equador's Guayas are Barques.

Barquentine is a sailing vessel with two for and aft rigged masts (usually gaff rigged) at the stern with the forward mast(s) square rigged. Canada's Concordia and Indoneasia's Dewaruci are  barquentines.
