Reunion Committee Meeting

The June 13th Reunion Committee Meeting resolved the following issues

Discussion on leadership concluded there will be no central leadership role, or Chairman.  That the committee has succeeded on all members contributing what they can to the success of the committee and one central chairman will not be appointed at this time. 

The decision to place Herb Halling's name on the bank account in place of Dick Johnson was made.  It takes 2 signatures to write a check in excess of $100.  Helen Good Bush, and Herb Halling.

Discussion on the 45th reunion considered options of weekends in Las Vegas or Palm Springs, and a 3 day Cruise out of Long Beach or San Pedro.  Each alternative had its merits, however the 3 day cruise offered the most benefits for a reunion.

• A Cruise kept each classmate in a central location and allowed for more quality time with other classmates.  This is the main goal of a reunion.

• The reunion cruise venue was not competing with other venues such as other casinos, or golf courses that drag classmates away from reunion center.

• The cruise offered the best value for the dollar when considering 3 nights, 8 meals, 100s of snacks, and all the entertainment for an average starting price of about $300 a person.  A similar package in Las Vegas or Palm Springs would cost a minimum of $500 a person for lodging and meals of this caliber.

• The Cruise line will host a party for the reunion.

• Seal Beach Cruse Center will do most the work of contacting classmates, making reservations, and handling all details.

• The Cruise departs at 5 PM Friday and returns 8 AM Monday allowing for minimum time off work and in most cases less of a drive to reach the ship in Long Beach or San Pedro, compared to a Las Vegas or Palm Springs drive.

• A Las Vegas or Palm Springs weekend would primarily involve most of Saturday and Saturday night with people arriving late Friday departing early Sunday.  A cruse includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for quality time with other classmates.

• The goal of the 45th Reunion is to provide bonding opportunities with other classmates and a cruise meets this goal best.

A discussion on the attendance expected from a cruise as compared to our last 40th reunion (250 people).  We expect a drop in participation because of the longer time commitment and the fact we are at sea for 3 days and nights.  The committee has run a survey on our web site for the last 4 years and we expect about a 25% drop in attendance, however we expect a 10 fold increase in reunion participation as classmates have more time to share with other classmates.

The timing of the expected cruise will probably be August or September, 2007 and we expect a first mailing of details in about 2 months after the cruise line publishes the rates for that time frame.

The committee will reserve a block of 100 rooms in the lower price range, and classmates will have an opportunity to upgrade to better rooms on a first come basis while they are still available.  If you want a nicer room with a patio, you will want to reserve early as we can not reserve these rooms.

Expected cost is starting at about $300 a person, double occupancy per room.  We will help find roommates if you are single and want to share a room.

Sea Air packages will be available where classmates can use their frequent flyer miles for out of town travelers.
